The Little List | September 9, 2021

Fall, fall fall! With September upon us, I am very ready to shift into all things fall. The flavours, the colours, the textures, the smells - there is no other time of year quite like it! I know that not everyone is ready to spring into this new season, but I can’t resist embracing it with open arms. I’m afraid that today’s Little List is going to have an underlying fall theme because I just can’t help myself. I’m eagerly jumping in to this new season with both feet.

These are a few of the things that have brought me joy, made me think, or helped me grow over the past couple of weeks:

  1. Pumpkin - you love it or you hate it. I just so happen to love it at this time of year. I opened a can of pumpkin the other day for a recipe and had a ton leftover, so naturally I made a batch of these pumpkin muffins to use it up. They were honestly so delicious! The recipe is really simple and comes together quickly, which is perfect when you have a toddler hanging off your leg impatiently asking for a muffin that hasn’t even been baked yet.

  2. You should know by now that I’m a sucker for wall art, so when I saw this adorable linocut print of some sweet little leaves I could hardly resist it. I love the small scale (a small scale piece can sometimes make a huge impact!) and I think it so special that it’s printed on handmade paper. It’s almost giving me enough inspiration to pull out my own lino supplies for a little art-making session.

  3. This is admittedly very random, but are you the type to stock paper napkins? I always like to have a couple packs on hand for impromptu dinner guests or gathering. I recently came across this pack and this pack and scooped them up in an instant - they’re neutral enough to use for any occasion but are still so stylish and pretty.

  4. I love how the shift to cooler temperatures opens up a whole new world of possibilities for cooking cozy comfort foods. In the autumn and winter months, I usually make either one soup or chilli recipe each week as a dinner. This recipe for Creamy Gnocchi Soup sounds like a dream and I already have it on my meal plan for next week. But you can bet I will be making some of my usual favourites too, like Creamy Tuscan Tortellini Soup and Cabbage Sausage and Potato Soup.

  5. I have loved getting cozy on the couch in the evening with a good book these past couple of weeks. I recently picked up this book and this book from the thrift store and can’t wait to dive in as soon as I finish this one up. I love using the library, but I’m a really slow reader so I have found that purchasing books from the thrift store for a dollar or two helps to alleviate the pressure to read them really quickly but still makes it affordable to get my hands on new titles. I have found some really good bestseller titles there over the past little while.

  6. I’m always looking to up my at-home coffee making game and with the cooler temperatures these days I think the time has finally come to purchase one of these rechargeable milk frothers. One of my favourite drinks to get as a treat when I’m out is a simple cafe misto (half brewed coffee, half steamed milk) and I think this will allow me to make these favourite treats at home too.

  7. Earlier this summer I completed this devotional plan about seeking rest in our work through my YouVersion app. If you use that app too, I highly recommend the plan. I was thinking that I may even work through it again because I know that there will always be room to improve in this area of my life. It’s really easy to prioritize and glorify busyness in our day and age, but I’ve been learning that true rest is imperative to fuel the work that we do.

Well it’s safe to say that most of these highlights involve cozy comfort food. What can I say? It’s the most wonderful time of the year for a homebody, cozy-comfort-loving, cooler-breeze-embracing lady like me. I hope you’re with me!

Do you change up your home decor based on the season? I don’t bother pulling out seasonal decorations, but I do like to integrate a few pieces that feel a little more cozy and warm if I can. I posted this round up of some cute fall home decor finds on our LiketoKnow.it account this week, but I’ve linked the sources down below too. It’s the most cozy time of the year!
