The Little List | October 25, 2021

I’m a little late in getting this post out today because we actually had a pretty eventful weekend. Our little family took a road trip to the Sandbanks area of Ontario to visit a couple of friends at their trailer. We were technically only there for one sleep, but we had a lot of fun playing, eating, and visiting. We don’t actually travel very often and every time we have tried, Mabel has been a pretty terrible sleeper in new spaces, so I’ll admit that I was dreading the sleepover aspect. I tried to keep my expectations low so I could be more understanding when none of us slept, but she actually surprised us and did a really great job settling and sleeping in her own pack and play. We all got a great sleep and I was so relieved!

On our adventure, our friends took us to probably the coolest playground I had ever seen. It had multiple levels and different jungle-gyms and slides galore, not to mention a zip line component that even I had fun sliding across. It was such a breath of fresh air to get out of our home and our routine for even just a night. And being able to catch up with some friends after a long couple of years of minimal social interaction was exactly what our souls needed.

Curt and I are both on vacation from work this week. We’re still going to send Mabel to daycare for a couple of days, so I’m definitely looking forward to catching up on some home projects, finding some moments to relax, and maybe even squeezing in a day date or two. It feels good to be excited about what’s ahead. These are a few of the other things that have brought me joy, made me think, or helped me grow over the past couple of weeks:

  1. Many of the items on our Fall Bucket List are based around Halloween, so I’m excited to be able to check some of those items off in the coming week. I’ve already started making Mabel’s Halloween costume, we’re going to watch Hotel Transylvania on Friday night as our kid-friendly Halloween movie night, and we’re planning to host some of our family on Sunday for a small Halloween party. Who knows, maybe I’ll even serve some warm apple cider and homemade donuts just to knock out a few more. I can’t wait!

  2. Now that it’s getting darker earlier in the evening, I’ve been enjoying curling up on the couch once Mabel goes to bed and playing MarioKart on my Nintendo Switch. I got my switch for my birthday in June and it has been so fun and nostalgic to play one of my old favourite games (anyone else forever love their N64?). I finally feel like I’m actually getting pretty good and may even start playing online against random people to see if I can sharpen my skills even more.

  3. I am very into olive green right now so I loved this House and Home magazine feature that highlighted the tone being used in so many different and inspiring ways.

  4. Outside of sharing here, I’m a freelance graphic designer and one of the most life-giving projects I’ve had the pleasure of working on over the course of this year is the branding and art direction for this new devotional app coming in late November. The app will be available for free over the course of Advent (which begins on November 28, 2021) and then you can choose to continue with the free subscription or a premium subscription from there. If this interests you at all, please consider checking it out. I can honestly say that it is unlike any other devotional app out there!

  5. I enjoyed listening to this episode of Domino’s Design Time podcast featuring textile designer Heather Taylor. Since I’ve been working on our dining room, I’ve found myself longing to use this space to gather with others, and I loved hearing Heather’s carefree (yet intentional) tips for hosting around a table. Not to mention that it introduced me to her beautiful textile brand and I am now totally swooning over these napkins and this tea towel.

  6. I love this stoneware jug vase I picked up the other week for our dining room. It was affordable and so versatile!

  7. And finally, over these past couple of weeks I hit a big milestone with my YouTube channel and reached 1000 subscribers! This was a goal I had set for myself to reach by the end of this year that completely opens the door for new opportunities on the platform, so I’m feeling really grateful, excited, and inspired to keep creating new content for my channel. I’ve already set a new goal and am excited to (hopefully) continue to grow on there in the coming months and years. Thank you if you are one of my subscribers who have supported my growth already - I really appreciate you!

Have a great last week of October and a spook-tacular Halloween!

I posted this collection of pretty dining tablewares on our LiketoKnow.it account last week. As I’m sure you can tell, my mind has been pretty singularly focussed on the dining room project. I already have a decent collection of glassware, but I loved how timeless these pieces were so I had to include them here, and I’m definitely in the market for some pretty linen napkins and loved these simple grey ones.
