Valentine’s Gift Guide: For Toddler Kiddos

I fully understand that Valentine’s Day is not for everyone, but growing up, my mom always left a little Valentine on the counter for me and my siblings to find and I always felt so loved from that little gesture. Valentine’s Day gets a bad rap because many claim it’s simply an excuse for a commercial holiday, and while I certainly won’t argue with that, I still really do like it. I love the idea of having a day where we are reminded to intentionally express our love to the people we care about, whether that be a partner, a child, a friend, or a parent. When my mom gave us a little Valentine each year, it was never extravagant, but the small act of leaving that little surprise always made me feel special. I have always known that I want to carry on the same tradition with my own kids.

As you probably know by this point, I love putting together little collections of ideas for gifts or artwork or anything really. I thought this would be a fun way to source out a little Valentine gift for my own daughter, while also giving you a few ideas in case you want to do the same for the little ones in your life. The following are some small gift ideas I thought would be perfect for toddlers aged 2-6, but of course, always practice discretion when it comes to what your own child can handle. Pair one or two of these items with a few little candies and you’ve got a perfect little Valentine to leave on the counter for your favourite kiddo(s).

  1. Heart Tights - These adorable tights come in a two-pack and are the perfect practical gift for your little one. I love how they fit the Valentine’s Day theme, but they can definitely be worn all year round.

  2. XOXO Craft Kit - Most little ones like to get their hands dirty with a craft. I love that this little set comes with its own set of paints and will likely require your help and attention, ensuring that you get to give the best gift of all - quality time.

  3. Pop It Fidget Toy Set - I’ve only recently noticed that these things are everywhere. The bubbles can be popped in the opposite direction, making them a great little fidget toy to throw in your purse or in the car. Heck, I can even see myself getting caught up with one of these.

  4. Koala Family (Calico Critters) - Mabel loves Calico Critters so I had to include a set on this list. This little koala family is too sweet for words.

  5. I Love You Mug - Of course this may be best geared towards older toddlers, but I know that Mabel loves having her own mug to drink out of. I thought this was a really cute option.

  6. Tiny T. Rex and the Perfect Valentine Book - I’ve said it many times: I never feel guilty about giving books as a gift. If you feel the same way, you may also enjoy this post I shared last year about cute Valentine’s-themed kid books that celebrate all different types of love.

  7. Mini Heart Bath Bombs - Bath bombs are such a fun and practical gift to give to kids. I love that this little set is handmade by a small business.

  8. Cutie Pie Sweatshirt - Does this come in my size?

  9. Heart Sneakers - The heart patch makes these a perfect Valentine gift, but they can easily be worn all year long.

  10. Faux Shearling Jacket - I’ll just say it again - does this come in my size?

  11. Heart Shaped Cushion - I can just picture how thrilled Mabel would be to receive this cushion. It would be adorable on a bed or thrown into a comfy reading nook.

  12. Play-Doh Playful Pies Set - This isn’t necessarily Valentines-themed, but I always love a good Play-Doh set and this little pie-making one would definitely get used over and over again.

  13. Furry Heart Pens - These are so fun! I remember being a kid and just swooning over any little fun knick-knack or pen like this. Did anyone else spend all their book fair money on the pencils, erasers, and book marks?

Of course, Valentine’s Day isn’t really about the gifts. It’s about expressing your love to the ones that you care about and you don’t need a cute heart-shaped gadget to do that. A hug, a kiss, and a few intentional words can go a long way too. However you decide to express your heart this year, I hope you have fun and shower the little ones in your life with all the love they deserve.
