Toddler Easter Basket Ideas (Other Than Candy)

ACS_0291.JPG

Call me an early bird, but I already have Mabel’s Easter basket together. Are Easter baskets completely necessary? Absolutely not. But as I’ve mentioned before, it’s the little things to look forward to that have been helping me get through this past year and setting up a little Easter scavenger hunt like my parent’s used to is one of those little things. In our family, we absolutely want to prioritize celebrating Easter for exactly what it is, but that also doesn’t stop us from having a little fun and making some memories as we do.

Since lockdown protocols have lessened slightly around here, we are excited to have an outdoor egg hunt with my nephew. I already grabbed a handful of plastic eggs from the dollar store, plus a few non-candy trinkets to fill them with (like little fluffy chicks and some stickers) to make the hunt extra fun. Of course we will enjoy some candy too, but with Mabel and her cousin only two years old, I want to be careful with how much sugar we give them access to.

On that note, I also rounded up a few cute Easter basket ideas that don’t involve candy. Of course some of these ideas are more substantial, so I always suggest grabbing one or two “bigger” things and filling in the rest with some fun little additions like playdough, hair clips, temporary tattoos, pastel markers, bubbles, craft supplies, or anything else you think your sweet kiddo would enjoy. Usually the simpler the item, the more exciting it is for little ones.

  1. Books are always a perfect gift in my eyes. This one is so colourful, cute, and interactive (this is one of the items I got for Mabel’s basket this year).

  2. Not Easter-specific, but the cutest little wooden chicken coop play set. In my mind, the best toys to get are non-holiday specific so they can be enjoyed all year long.

  3. Mabel loves Calico Critters and these bunny options are perfect for the season. They are best geared for older toddlers, as they can have some pretty small pieces. Low investment? This little rocking horse bunny is perfect. Willing to spend more? The Sweet Pea Rabbit Family is so sweet.

  4. Toddler sunglasses for those Spring days spent outdoors. These come in many colour options.

  5. I love involving Mabel in the projects I’m doing when I can. She already has some gardening tools, but I picked up some toddler gardening gloves and a few packs of flower seeds for her basket this year. I can’t wait to help her grow her own little garden of cosmos!

  6. This is a great little puzzle for toddlers of all ages. It’s fun for little ones to pop the carrots in and out and is also more complex for older toddlers as they explore the idea of size and space.

  7. It’s finally time to put away the long-sleeves and embrace the warmer weather with some t-shirt pyjamas. I grabbed these cuties on sale for Mabel’s basket.

  8. The sweetest little handmade flower hair clips.

  9. This little wooden stacker brings all the Spring feels and is great for younger toddlers (age 1-2).

  10. Sidewalk chalk eggs. Need I say more? (Check out your local dollar store to see if they carry these if you don’t want to purchase online).

I know that many of the specific items I shared above are geared towards toddler girls, but I hope it at least gives you some ideas of both practical items and fun play things you can add to an Easter basket for your specific kiddo. Are you going to put together a basket this year? What kinds of items are you going to add?
