The Ruby Red | Poolside Cocktail Series

ACS_0666.JPG

One of my favourite hobbies is mixing cocktails at home. I love being inspired by different flavours and learning how to make my own delicious concoctions to enjoy in the comfort of my own home. In particular, the summertime is usually my moment, as I love learning new recipes for refreshing cocktails to sip on while sitting outside in the sunshine. Since I tend to play around anyways, I thought it would be fun to do a little series over the course of the summer that shares some of the delicious and refreshing cocktails I try at home to enjoy poolside. Today is the first instalment of that series.

This one is called the Ruby Red. I came across the recipe on the Instagram feed for Real Simple magazine. It’s a really simple drink and the perfect one to make if you are new to the cocktail game. It only uses a few ingredients, making it easy to dive into if you don’t already have an established bar collection. It also requires very minimal prep, making it really easy to whip up to enjoy with friends. It’s refreshing, sweet, and hits all the summer notes with the star of the show being ruby red grapefruit juice.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Ruby Red grapefruit juice

  • Cointreau (an orange liqueur, which could be replaced with Triple Sec)

  • sparkling wine (any kind will do!)

  • ice

  • grapefruit, sliced for garnish (optional)

To make the drink:

Fill a lowball glass (or any glass you want to use!) with 4-5 ice cubes. Pour 1/4 cup of Ruby Red grapefruit juice on top of the ice. Slowly, add 1 Tablespoon of Cointreau. This drink has a really beautiful ombre effect if you pour slowly. Next, top the glass with the sparkling wine (or approximately 3/4 cup worth). Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

That’s literally all it takes! You don’t need any special bar equipment, which means they are easy to make outdoors during a party. The pretty ombre effect will definitely wow guests, but just give the ingredients a little swizzle before drinking to ensure they combine.

Do you think you will give it a try this weekend? It’s such a fun drink to sip on. If you enjoyed this recipe, i’ll be hosting this series on our YouTube channel, so be sure to check out the video recipe if you’d like to see the recipe in action. And don’t forget to subscribe if you want to see the other episodes I put out over the course of the summer.

Enjoy!
