I’ve been busy working away on our powder room makeover with every spare moment I get a chance. With some nice sunny fall weather this past week, I was finally able to test out my plan to put gel stain over top of the existing stain finish on the vanity doors to see if I could get rid of the orange tones. I’m excited to report that I think it may have worked, so next steps will be to apply this technique to the entire vanity. This powder room is a high-traffic area in our home, so it’s been difficult to find the right opportunity to do this step where it won’t risk being touched by a three year old. I’m hoping to get this phase of the process wrapped up within the next week.

It’s been a while since I’ve done any home projects. I forgot how much enjoyment it brings me - to set the time aside to pour into our home, a space we love and cherish and make so many memories in each day. It feels good to be back at it. I don’t know if I’ll have another project right away once I wrap this up. but for now I will relish in the excitement that a fresh coat of paint and some intentional decorating brings. I haven’t been rushing so I can draw every last speck of joy out of the process.

Speaking of joy, here are a few other things that have been bringing me joy, making me think, or helping me grow over the past couple of weeks:

  1. Mabel and I made this pumpkin cream cheese coffee cake together last week and it was delicious. We have really been enjoying watching Wyse Guide’s recipe videos together on YouTube and have tried out a good handful of them. Every single one has been a hit!

  2. I love how various vintage pieces helped create an eclectic feel in this home tour, yet it still feels light and bright. So dreamy.

  3. Made this cozy soup in the crockpot for dinner last night and it was everything I dreamed it would be. I also added shredded rotisserie chicken because we had some leftovers in the fridge. As a side note, that has been one of my favourite hacks lately - buying one of the whole roasted chickens from the grocery store, carving it up, and using it across multiple meals. With the cost of meat soaring these days, it has been a really economical option and I love that the cooking is already done. I’ve used it to make chicken pot pie with biscuits, for chicken, corn, and black bean quesadillas (based on this recipe), and to make chicken chilli for taco salad.

  4. Also, let’s take a moment to appreciate crockpots. ‘Tis the season.

  5. Thinking I may try to make this little non-spooky ghost craft with Mabel before Halloween, but I may opt to use lollipops as the base so she can gift them to her friends at school. I think she will love it!

  6. Speaking of Halloween, we have been enjoying evening walks in the dark as a family after dinner. Mabel loves finding new Halloween decorations, so we’ve been taking a different route each day. I’m not one to really dwell on Halloween much (to be honest, it gives me the creeps), but seeing how excited she is about the decorations make me excited for Christmas this year. Will we end up being a house with a big blow up Santa on the yard? I’m never going to say never.

  7. Today is the second day of WayDay sales on Wayfair! Below I have shared a handful of great deals available through the sale, including a steal of a deal on the rug we have in our home office (3 below). A few other honourable mentions include a great deal on a 6-pack of melamine dinner plates (5), a 2-pack of versatile kitchen dining chairs (10), and the absolute prettiest plaid chair in a traditional shape (8). You can find all the links below!
